The Theological Virtues
The theological virtues direct man to supernatural happiness in the same way as by the natural inclination man is directed to his connatural end.
Christ raises our finite human nature far beyond what it could accomplish by its own power, giving to His disciples a share in the supernatural life of God Himself. As the Second Letter of Peter puts it, “he has granted to us his precious and very great promises . . . that you may . . . become partakers of the divine nature.” (2 Pet. 1:4)
