St. Thomas Aquinas advised that humans should use the reason given to them by nature, but also should have an open mind to the supernatural and to the possibility that, by grace, a higher light could illuminate their minds. This supernatural light — the light of faith — does not extinguish or undermine truths discovered by reason. Rather, it supplements and aids reason, helping to see more deeply into the truth of reality, which comes from God and has its ultimate destiny in Hm.
